Ukung is a place to keep your journeys, not a machine for harvesting them. You are the customer, never the product. We do not sell your data, we do not run ads, and your maps are private until you decide to share them.
The short version. We collect the account details your sign-in provider gives us, the photos and videos you upload, and the location and time information already embedded in them — because putting a photo on the map where it was taken is the whole point. We use that only to run the service for you. We never sell it or use it for advertising.
Ukung is provided by Ukung LLC, a Washington limited liability company ("Ukung", "we", "us"). It's a service for uploading geotagged photos and videos that appear on a private world map and timeline. Ukung LLC decides how your personal data is used and is responsible for it. If you have any question about this policy or your data, contact us at hello@ukung.com, which is the fastest way to reach us. By post: Ukung LLC, 522 W Riverside Ave, Ste N, Spokane, WA 99201-0581, United States.
When you create an account we receive basic profile details from your chosen sign-in provider (Microsoft, Google, Facebook, or email): typically your name, email address, and — where available — a profile picture. Authentication is handled by Microsoft Entra External ID; we never see or store your password.
We store the media you upload and read the metadata already inside those files, including:
We use this to place each item on the map and to group your uploads into trips automatically. If a file has no location, it simply isn't placed on the map.
Optional details such as a home location, a display name, trip names, and a connected OneDrive account (if you link one to import from it).
When you start, we ask for your country of residence. We use it only to decide which region stores your data (see Where your data is stored), and we keep it with your account.
If you subscribe to Ukung Premium, your payment is handled by Stripe. You enter your card details on Stripe's page, and we never see or store your card number. We keep only what we need to know your subscription is active: Stripe's reference numbers for you and your subscription, and its status.
If you join a waitlist, we keep your email address, where you signed up from and, if you're waiting for a region to open, which region. We use it only to email you when that happens. We don't add you to any other mailing, and you can ask us to remove you at any time.
Basic server and security logs, including your IP address, which we use to keep the service running and protect it from abuse. We use only the cookies required to keep you signed in — no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
To learn whether Ukung is useful, whether people revisit their trips and whether shared links get opened, we keep anonymous daily totals. Examples: how many trips were replayed, how many photos were opened, how many shared links were viewed, and roughly how many different people did so, by country. These totals are not linked to you, your trips or your photos, and we don't store your IP address or browser details for them.
To count different people without knowing who they are, we turn your account ID (if you're signed in) or your IP address and browser type (if you're not) into a one-way code that can't be reversed, using a secret that is deleted after a month (or after a day, if you're not signed in). Only these codes, reduced to a compact statistical summary, are kept. Nothing is stored on your device for this, and it is never used for advertising or to recommend content.
We do not use your photos, location history, or account data to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone.
Your content is private by default. It leaves your account only when:
Your data is hosted on Microsoft Azure, today in the United States. We're building regions in Europe and Asia-Pacific. If your country of residence belongs to a region that isn't open yet, your data is stored in the United States until it opens, and we'll then offer to move it there. You can also choose to wait instead, by joining that region's waitlist before adding anything.
Where storing your data in the United States means a transfer out of your own region, for example from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on the safeguards Microsoft Azure provides for such transfers, including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
We keep your content for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual photos, trips, and collections at any time from within the app, and you can ask us to delete your entire account. When you delete content it is removed from active systems; residual copies in backups are purged on our normal backup cycle.
To delete your account and everything in it, sign in, open your profile, and choose Delete my account at the bottom of the page. Your account closes immediately: share links stop working and your devices are signed out. Your photos, videos, trips and collections are erased after 7 days. Until then, you can restore the account by signing in again.
If you signed in with Facebook or Google, the same steps delete the name and email address we received from them. Removing Ukung from your Facebook or Google account settings stops future sign-ins, but it does not delete your Ukung data. For that, use the steps above. When your data is erased, we also delete your sign-in record from our identity provider for accounts that record it. If yours predates that, or you can't sign in, email hello@ukung.com from the address on your account and we'll remove it.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU/UK, or the CCPA in California), you have rights over your personal data, including the right to access it, correct it, export it, and have it deleted. You can exercise most of these directly in the app; for anything else, email hello@ukung.com and we will respond.
Data is encrypted in transit, and stored on Microsoft Azure infrastructure. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your content and keep the attack surface small.
Ukung is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, where higher), and we do not knowingly collect their data.
We may update this policy as the service evolves. When we make material changes we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you.
